| To mark the start of
the 100th anniversary of Rotary International being celebrated
during his 2004/05 administrative year, the Rotary Club of New
Kingston has presented 5 Jamaican Companies with its Centennial
Awards. The recipients are the Carreras Group, Scotia Bank
Jamaica Limited, Jencare Skin Farm, Capital & Credit Merchant Bank
and Jamaica National Building Society.
Making the presentation of these first
set of special awards, Club President Errol Maye said it was "our
way of recognizing the support of Corporate Jamaica, given over the
years to the humanitarian and community service work of Rotary."
He said that "without such support Rotary's efforts and achievements
in the cause of human development could not have been so
outstanding.
The five companies recognized have
been consistent in their contributions over the years to the
outreach activities of the club in areas such as an Annual Health
Fair for the young children in the Cassava Piece Community, the
Harrison Home for the Aged, the Musgrave Girls Home, the Jamaica
Christian Boys Home, and Careers Expo for High School students.
The support has also seen the erecting of Rotary 4 Way Test signs at
schools in the Corporate Area as part of a values and positive
attitude building initiative.
President Maye said the other
Centennial Awards will be presented during the course of the year,
in recognition of exemplary service in areas such as community
development, sports, among others. A full programme of special
activities is also been planned by the club to celebrate the
Centenary of Rotary International, including the launch of a special
commemorative vocational service project.
Rotarians the world over will gather
in Chicago, U.S.A., the birthplace of Rotary, later in the year for
the special 100 birthday conference. |
