Gary Grant Vocational Service Awards 2008

The 2008 staging of the Vocational Service Awards ceremony of the Rotary Club of the New Kingston was held on Friday November 28, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

At the function, the winners for this year were announced and citations and plaques presented to them on behalf of the Club. The Gary Grant Vocational Service Award named in honour of the Club’s former Vocational Service Director and which is specifically given to a Rotarian, was presented to Rotarian Clifford Webster of the Rotary Club of Spanish Town.  He was selected from a short list of Rotarian nominees including Past President Radley Reid of St Andrew North and Past President Ryland Campbell of Kingston Downtown.

For the Vocational Service Award this year’s recipient was the Griffin Charitable Trust, a development inniative steered by Ms. Moira Morgan, and which has dedicated itself to working with inner city youths. The citation praised the institution for its years of dedicated service to inner city youths  in fostering peace in their communities.

The New Kingston Rotary Club hosts the annual Gary Grant Vocational Service Award to honour the memory of former Director Gary Grant, who died in a tragic motor cycle accident in 2000, following the club’s Friday morning breakfast meeting. The administration of Past President Lincoln Robinson, in whose administration Gary Grant served initiated the awards which have been attended every year since its inauguration by Gary’s parents Mr. & Mrs. Gary Grant.
